2011 Events Recap: OUR FIRST-EVER MUSHROOM HUNT A passel of avid and curious mushroom hunters arrived at the Earles Easement in Douglas County for a Mushroom Hunt led by KLT member and expert mycologist Sherry Kay. The 134-acre Earles Easement, now protected forever by KLT, is home to a variety of ecosystems friendly to mushrooms. The merry band of mushroom hunters wended their way through copses of oak and hickory, and ended up with about 25 different species of mushrooms.
DEDICATION OF THE MOHLER EASEMENT KLT was honored to dedicate our 45th easement on October 22, 2011. The Mohler Easement, located east of Milford Lake in Clay County, now permanently protects 261 acres of native tallgrass prairie, replanted prairies, oak-hickory woods, a wetland, and riparian woods along Timber Creek. The easement also protects threatened populations of Henslow’s Sparrows and Prairie Mole Crickets. Several limestone buildings dating back to an original homestead built in the 1860s are featured on this property. Landowner Mark Mohler gave delighted attendees a guided tour of the easement following the ceremony. Thanks to you, our members and supporters, KLT is able to create buffers protecting wildlife, water resources, and working farm and ranch lands. AN EVENING AT OUR FAVORITE FLINT HILLS PLACES
