Prairie Walk with Kansas Native Plant Society

RSVP

Join us for a guided walk with Kansas Native Plant Society! This event marks the first time the public will be invited to Emerick, a conserved property near Park City, north of Wichita. In 2022, KLT worked with the Emerick family to protect 45 acres of native prairie, 89 acres of prime farmland, and 46 acres of woodland from encroaching development.

Krista Dahlinger of Kansas Native Plant Society and KLT Conservation Coordinator Patti Beedles will share knowledge as they guide our walk on this special piece of land.

Summer Solstice Annual Fundraiser

The Kansas Land Trust Summer Solstice Celebration, held at the Cider Gallery in Lawrence, gathers 150 people from the local giving community for an evening of food, drink, music, and merriment. The abundance of the summer season provides the perfect backdrop for celebrating KLT’s mission of protecting land in Kansas so that future generations can continue to enjoy the benefits of healthy, productive outdoor spaces. This year’s annual fundraiser will include brief remarks from the Kansas conservation community, the announcement of the 2024 KLT Friend of Conservation Award, and engaging activities to celebrate the longest day of the year.

Spring Ephemeral Walk

RSVP

Join us at Earles Conservation Easement for a walk celebrating spring! This event is a unique opportunity for visitors to walk the trails and experience the beauty of these special woodlands. Patti Beedles, Conservation Coordinator, will discuss the ephemeral plants that emerge during the first warm days of spring. Patti will be joined by speakers EJ Jamison and Reb Bryant.

EJ Jamison (she/her) is the Northeast District Forester with Kansas Forest Service. During the Earles Easement walk, EJ will share knowledge of reading the forested landscape, tree identification, forest management, and gifts from trees to people and wildlife.

Reb Bryant (they/them) is a PhD candidate in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at KU and a board member of Grassland Heritage Foundation. During the walk, they hope to share more about the importance of soils, identifying conservative prairie plant species, and the role of people in stewardship.

A special thank you to Ralph Earles and his late wife, Roma, for sharing their land with us.

Please RSVP. Space is limited!

Guided Walk at Buck Creek

We're excited to announce another winter walk at Buck Creek! This free, guided walk is located on KLT-protected property in Jefferson County. This land is accessible for seasonal hiking and hunting only by permission from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism.

Our guides, Rex Buchanan (Director Emeritus of Kansas Geological Survey), Lucas DeCicco (Curator of Ornithology at the KU Biodiversity Institute), and Patti Beedles (KLT Conservation Coordinator) will take us through time and space as we explore and observe the exposed cliff face along the rocky edge of Buck Creek.
